Undertaking on motorway in uk...?

if you're driving along on the nearside lane at a steady 60mph, then you are slowly overtaken by someone in the middle lane, that someone then decides to slow down to 56mph staying in the middle lane, im still travelling at 60mph in nearside lane, am i breaking the law by undertaking???
